Seeds of Fortune Inc. Scholars in Partnership with Yale Women in Economics is a 10-month program that delivers an Economics capstone project and college prep.

 

40 scholars are selected to learn economics with Yale University professors with the goal of having young women of color enter the field of economics and use the knowledge to rethink the economy for their communities.

Selected students will have access to​:

10-month Program in college Admission & Financing (Monthly Workshops) 

Capstone Research Project Mentored by Yale Women in Economics students and Virtual Yale Professor Lectures

$2000 Scholarship for Cost of Attendance to (4) Day Yale residential overnight & Admission visit

Information You Must Know While Applying:

DO I QUALIFY?

  • Must be current High School Junior/High School Graduation Class of 2026

  • Attend a Public or Parochial School

  • Identify as a Female Student of color (African-American, Asian-American, Latino, or Native American)

  • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.0

  • Low to Moderate House Hold Income (Should Not exceed $125,000).

There are 3 rounds to our application process:

  • Phase 1: Submit your application by the deadline

    • Early Deadline: December 1, 2024

    • Regular Deadline: December 31, 2024​

    • Late Deadline: January 20, 2025

  • Phase 2: Semi-Finalist Selection & Notification

    • Early Decision Applicants:​ December 9, 2024

    • Regular Decision Applicants:​ January 7, 2025

    • Late Decision Applicants: January 24, 2025

  • Phase 3: Semi-Finalist Interviews 

    • January 30 & 31, 2025

  • Phase 4: Finalist Interviews

    • February 13, 2025

  • Phase 5: Selected Candidates Announced

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Will food allergies/religious restrictions be accommodated during the in-person boot camp?

A: Yes, Yale's dining hall offers an array of food choices that accommodate food allergies and/or religious restrictions. 

 

Q: Is there a GPA requirement?

A: Yes, 3.0+ cumulative GPA


Q: Do students need to submit a resume?

A: Resume submission is completely optional during phase 1.

 

Q: Do students need a letter of recommendation?

A: No

 

Q: How long is the commitment?

A: A year-long (10 Months)

 

Q: How often are required meetings held?

A: Monthly March 2025 - May 2026

*2 unexcused absences allowed

 

Q: Is the program virtual or in-person?

A: The program is completely virtual, besides the mandatory in-person Boot Camp at Yale University.

 

Q: Where will the virtual meetings be held?

A: All virtual meetings will be held via zoom.

 

Q: What is meant by student of color? 

A. Students must identify as African-American, Asian-American, Latino, Native American or Bi-Racial)

Q: Does participating in this scholarship program guarantee admission to Yale University?
A: No, participating in the Yale Women in Economics Scholarship Program does not guarantee admission to Yale University.


Q: Do students have to participate in the in-person boot camp at Yale?
A: Yes, all participants must attend the in-person Boot Camp at Yale to be a Yale Women in Economics Scholar.


Q: Are room and board provided at the in-person boot camp?
A: Yes, room and board are provided during the in-person Bootcamp.

Participants will have up to 3 roommates.


Q: Is transportation provided to and from Yale University?
A:No, participants must facilitate their own transportation to and from Yale University for the Boot Camp.


Q: Are there any fees associated? 
A: Our program is free to students from HH incomes of $125K or less. A $75 commitment fee will be requested from the chosen Yale Women in Economics Scholars. Financial aid is available for those who cannot meet the commitment fee. *All other fees are generously underwritten by our corporate and college partners.
